Product Update: Lip-Synced Video Translation, Screencast + Avatar for Everyone, and Background Remover Backdrops — July 11, 2026
Video Translator now supports lip-sync and Brazilian Portuguese. Avatar mode and Screencast + Avatar mode are open to everyone. A new Background Remover backdrop picker adds preset scenes. Plus independent music/voiceover mute toggles, a faster start to new conversations, and nine bug fixes.
This release adds lip-sync to the Video Translator tool (plus a new Brazilian Portuguese language option), opens Avatar mode and Screencast + Avatar mode to everyone — previously limited to the ngram team — and adds a preset backdrop picker to the Background Remover tool. There are also independent mute toggles for background music and voiceover, a faster start to new conversations, and fixes for nine bugs across chat, editor, and playback — including "make changes" pins that could linger on screen and an Auto style that could get stuck on a removed preset.
What's New
Lip-Synced Video Translation
The Video Translator tool can now sync the speaker's lips to match the translated audio, with a toggle to turn lip-sync on or off. Brazilian Portuguese has also been added as a target language, alongside standard Portuguese.
Screencast + Avatar Mode, Open to Everyone
Avatar video mode and Screencast + Avatar mode — previously limited to the ngram team — are now available to all users.
Background Remover Backdrops
The Background Remover tool now offers a picker of preset backdrop scenes — Home Studio, Tech Studio, Collaborative Office, Executive Boardroom, and Creator Studio — to drop your subject into, in addition to uploading your own custom background.
Change Voiceover Language After Generation
You can now change a video's voiceover language after narration has already been generated — ngram automatically re-translates the script and re-records the voiceover to match.
Independent Music and Voiceover Mute
A new Edit video dropdown on the final video preview lets you mute background music or voiceover independently. The mute carries through to downloads and shares.
Improvements
Redesigned Fetching Assets Step
The "Fetching assets" step when starting a new video has been redesigned: choose between assets pulled from your links or one of your saved brand kits, including team brand kits. You can also continue as soon as the first check finishes instead of waiting for all of them, with a live progress indicator showing how many are done.
Faster Start on New Conversations
New conversations start noticeably faster — the first loading indicator now appears sooner after you send your first message.
Bug Fixes
- Video generation could appear stuck on "paused" — a generation stream could silently stop even though your video was still finishing in the background. Fixed.
- Chat's loading indicator could get stuck after Undo — using Undo could leave the thinking spinner running forever. Fixed.
- Uploaded video preview didn't match the exported crop — an uploaded video with cropped framing could preview uncropped in the editor but export cropped. Fixed.
- Auto style could lock onto a removed preset — choosing "Auto" for visual style could silently stay pinned to an old style that had since been removed. Fixed, and a few outdated styles (Abstract Organic, Old Cartoons, Magazine Editorial) were removed from the picker.
- "Make changes" pins could linger on the video after sending — pins you placed to request an edit could stay visible well after you hit send, sometimes for over a minute, instead of clearing immediately. Fixed.
- Storyboard and clone chat glitches — a storyboard scene being re-edited could look falsely finished instead of showing a loading state, and cloning a conversation could briefly show a duplicated message. Both fixed.
- Background Remover mishandled non-person footage — product demos, screen recordings, and flat-lays could come out with a shredded, broken background instead of a clean cut. Fixed.
- n8n setup card led nowhere — the n8n integration card in Settings > Integrations now links to a working setup guide instead of a dead end. Fixed.
- Internal MCP sign-in keys cluttered your API keys list — connecting an MCP client via OAuth sign-in created extra internal keys that showed up in Settings. They're now hidden.
